Hospital Equity and Access Lobby (HEAL) founder Janet Mays is standing as an Independent Candidate for Ward 1 in the Blue Mountains City Council (BMCC) Local Government elections in September and believes it’s time that Councillors are accountable to local residents.“As an independent candidate and Blue Mountains resident, I am determined to bring accountability and transparency back to Local Government”, she said.
Janet’s motivation to stand as a candidate came from what she saw as a need for more effective management of issues that matter to Blue Mountains residents.
“I am already working hard with HEAL to improve hospital services to Blue Mountains residents”.
“The people of the Blue Mountains deserve to be represented by Councillors who understand the complexity of the issues that affect their daily lives”.
“Ongoing local employment; sustaining our precious environment; better management of future development; equitable distribution of community resources; promoting and enhancing village life - along with the effective measurement of council performance, are just some of the areas I’ll be working on”, Ms Mays said.
Ms Mays is actively working to establish an Employment Strategy and Development Think Tank with a number of well-respected local businesses, committed to growth in the Blue Mountains.
Janet Mays is optimistic that community involvement and consultation can return to Local Government.
“Whatever the outcome of my campaign, I will continue to lobby for improved community consultation and transparency of Local Government”.
