Katoomba

KEY ISSUES FACING KATOOMBA

  • Town Centre Revitalisation
  • Local Jobs Creation
  • Public Safety
  • Balancing Resident Needs with Tourism Needs
  • Effective Management of Development
  • Access to Quality, Local Health Care Services

Katoomba is the largest residential and commercial centre in the Blue Mountains, yet it continues to languish behind other Mountains Villages. Why?

The Charette

In October 1998, hundreds of residents gathered at the Tafe facilities in Parke Street to consider the future of Katoomba. The community was engaged and people willingly shared their thoughts and ideas for a better Katoomba.

Reports were written and then…. NOTHING!

  • It’s time to dust off the Charette and to renew Katoomba.
  • It’s time for the needs and interests of Katoomba residents to be acted upon.
  • It’s time to listen to and encourage small business in Katoomba.
  • It’s time to invest in Katoomba! Footpaths, street lighting, roads & parking.
  • It’s time for solutions!

“We need Councillors with a vision for the Mountains. Councillors who will place the needs of the community first”.

Local Jobs Creation

Let’s bring the community together and focus on local jobs creation.

  • Jobs creation that extends beyond tourism.
  • Jobs creation that keeps our young people in the Mountains.
  • Job creation that utilises clean technologies and provides secure, long term employment opportunities.

Public Safety

Let’s seek to build a stronger, more inclusive community. A community where a sense of civic pride drives our every action.

  • We need to understand the root causes for the escalation in property damage and crime in our community and solve these problems.

Effective Management of Development

We must protect our unique environment, whilst balancing the needs of development and progress.

  • What legacy do we want to leave our future generations?

Access to Quality, Local Health Care Services

We need 24/7 access to quality, local heath care services.

  • We must lobby State and Federal Governments to improve health care services for Katoomba residents.

Put the Needs of the Community First!

On Saturday, September 13th 2008, vote for Janet Mays. Janet understands the issues facing Katoomba and is prepared to do something about them!

Janet Mays is an independent, community focussed Councillor who will listen to and fairly represent the residents of Katoomba.
