Whilst doorknocking recently, I struck up a conversation with a woman in North Leura who told me she felt that we “had dishonoured our youth”. She went on to provide examples of where, as a community, she felt we are failing to meet the needs of our young people. She said we needed to do something and to do it quickly!

Her comments have made me seriously reflect on the needs of younger members of community.

How well do we look after the social, transport, housing, health and employment needs of our youth? Do we provide sufficient local sport & recreation and social opportunity for our young people? Do we listen to our youth and respond to them in a respectful manner? As a community, do we care enough for the generations that follow us?

If elected to Council I will:

• Revitalise our youth councils
• Work with our schools to help engage our youth
• Participate in round tables with teenagers to better understand the issues facing them
• Advocate for social and sporting amenities that will help to relieve the boredom that many young Mountains residents experience
• Encourage our youth to participate in our community
